The Midwifery Course
Clemmy a student midwife explains what the midwifery course is like
It's a three year degree and it's split between theory and practice. A normal academic year we normally have six weeks theory and then we go into a placement for anything between six and eight weeks. Then we come back to University for another six weeks.
It's a 37 and a half hour week we cover plus having to do your academic work as well so it's like having a full time job and doing a degree on top so it's really, really hard work.
In the first and second year you are very much supported by the university but by the third year I think they feel that as you're nearly qualified you should work as independently as possible. Plus you are doing you dissertation so the third year's the toughest.
