The Child Nursing Course - Placements

So as I said earlier after two months in theory you get put on you first placement. I was placed on a general ward which was really good because it just gave a really wide variety so I got to see loads of different things, children having surgery, children with cancer, babies coming in with different illnesses so it was a really good overview of all the different things you might come into contact with as a children's nurse.

It was quite scary the prospect of when you first join you know that you are going to be on placement after just two months being on the course, that did really scare me but they prepare you really well and when you go out the nurses that you are working with are really supportive and you have a mentor to show you what to do and you can go to them with any questions you have. Also you see, when you see the nurses that you are working with when they've got confidence in you it really build up the confidence that you have in yourself as well.

In your second year you have a specialist placement so I will be going out in the Bristol children's hospital in the A & E department so I am quite scared about that but really excited I think it will be really good to see the different things there. It will be a really steep learning curve but it will be really good.
