How do You See Your Career Progressing?

Rebecca Hoskins - Consultant Nurse and Senior Lecturer in Emergency Care describes how she sees her career progressing

How do You See Your Career Progressing?

At the moment I am really really happy in the job that I currently work within. I love this job it's the best job I've ever had. I think there's still lots of challenges to achieve within this particular role and I think the face of the NHS is changing so radically that this role will change as well. I think it's vitally important for nurses to have a voice and to have the opportunity to influence the future of the provision of patient care and how it's delivered and I think roles such as the Nurse Consultant role gives the opportunity to do that alongside our medical colleagues and managers of NHS services. Being part of the university also enables me to help develop new roles, new ways of delivering patient care for example new roles such as the Emergency Care Practitioner role which has had a massive impact on unscheduled care. This role is all about innovation and management of change without losing the main focus of the role which is around patient care. I think there is so much to be done in this particular role that I envisage seeing myself here for some time to come.
