Why Chose to Study Social Work

Leo a social work student talks about why he chose to study social work

The reason I chose to become a Social Worker, my previous background was in computers, and I found myself a lot of the time not interacting with people which is something that I really, really enjoy. Because I worked in quite a small company I got to do roles such as human resources, sitting on interviews and sorting out some problems for people. I think it made me realise that that's where my preference lied, dealing with people, talking to people and just working with them in general.

From there I moved into a learning disabilities unit. We worked with people to help them find jobs, help to train them in on their new jobs things like that and within that job I got a lot of exposure to Social Workers and just got quite interested in the things that they do, the role that they have within social services in general.
